The adjustment range should cover your floor’s worst unevenness plus any sanitation clearance required under the unit; too little travel and installers shim the foot with offcuts, which voids the load path; too much travel and the extended stud can introduce side-play under lateral force.

Finally, choose the base for the floor and the environment. Hard nylon or steel bases suit wash-down areas and heavy point loads; softer compounds protect polished tile and epoxy coatings from marking. In steam-heavy zones — dishwashing, sterilization — specify stainless bodies and studs so corrosion never seizes the adjustment thread.
